Rules and Regs are words to live by for a Scout

Boy scout Troop 228 Bi-Laws

 1.            As Scouts, we must conduct ourselves with honor, integrity and respect.     Profanity, lewdness, rudeness and inappropriate behavior such as theft, vandalism, destructiveness and violence will not be tolerated.  Discipline ranges from verbal reprimand to expulsion from the Troop, at the Troop Committees discretion.  Conduct becoming a Scout and demonstrating Scoutings values will be quickly recognized and rewarded.

2.                  Alcohol, drugs, firearms, fireworks, radios, televisions, cell phones, pagers and video games are forbidden at Troop meetings, gatherings, service projects and camp outings.  These items will be confiscated and held by Troop leaders.  At the end of the Scout event, the items will be returned to the parents.  Unlawful items or activities WILL be reported to law enforcement.  Violations may result in suspension from Troop activities or expulsion as determined by the Troops Committee.  Possession or use of illegal substances will result in immediate expulsion from the Troop without exception.

3.                  Kentucky law prohibits smoking cigarettes to persons under the age of 18.  Smoking is not allowed by Troop members under the age of 18.

4.                  Use of profanity, as well as profane or lewd displays on personal items is not allowed.

5.                  Gambling is incompatible with Scoutings values and is prohibited.

6.                  The Scout uniform is required attire of the Boy Scouts of America.  The uniform will be worn at all Troop functions.  These include meetings, service projects, courts of honor, activities and transportation to and from camp unless otherwise instructed.

7.                  New scouts are required to have full uniform within 60 days of joining the Troop.  The uniform consists of the shirt, pants, leather or Scout web belt and Scout baseball cap.  The Council strip, patrol patch and Troop number should also be affixed to the shirt as per the inside back cover of the Scout Handbook.  After 60 days, boys without full uniform will be suspended from all Troop activities except Troop meetings.  If problems exist with obtaining the full uniform within the required time frame, please talk with the Scoutmaster.

8.                  Yearly registration for a youth member is $16.00.  An additional fee of $8.43 will be charged when a boy initially joins the Troop to purchase a Scout Handbook.  The handbook will be given to the new Scout at the following weekly Troop meeting.  These fees are non-refundable.  No boy will be allowed to attend a Troop function without current registration.

 9.                  Troop meetings are on Tuesdays, 7:30pm 9:00pm at Deerpark Baptist Church.  Troop outings will occur monthly, as announced.  Special Troop activities may also be announced from time to time.  Advancements in rank require a Scout to participate in at least 75% of the Troop meetings, 50% of Troop outings and other activities.  Scouts are encouraged to participate in 100% of all activities to get the full benefits of the Scouting program.

 10.              Troop dues are $1.00 per week.  Dues may be paid monthly, if desired, and will be used to defray the costs of awards to the Scouts and forms and supplies needed for the Troops operation.  These funds are also used to purchase and maintain equipment for the Troop.  Adult leaders volunteer their time and effort.  Troop leaders are not paid for their services.

 11.              Camping fees are paid by the Scouts and vary with the camping location.  These fees pay for food, permits and facilities.

 12.              We welcome all boys into Scouting regardless of race, choice of religion, or ethnic or national origin.  We encourage our members to embrace the high ideals of the Scouting movement and work to gain all that Scouting has to offer.  The adult leadership of our Troop will make every effort to assist our boys in becoming honorable and outstanding citizens.  It is our goal to help each of our Scouts grow into men who embrace God, country and family and each other to embody the fine virtues represented by all of these.

 13.              It is the policy of the Troop and Scouting to involve parents in the program.  Parents are encouraged to visit any Troop activities and join our Troops adult leadership.  It is our belief that some of the most dedicated leaders are the parents of the boys that we serve.

 14.              Welcome to our Troop and to Scouting!
