Hello friends of Scouting!
Troop 228 has set the date for our next camping trip to Camp Crooked Creek. The dates are Friday August 16 - Sunday, August 18, 2002. We will depart from Deerpark Baptist Church at 6:30pm. We are looking for new Scouts to join our Troop. New boys are welcome on our camping trip with a signed permission slip and BSA registration. Our next meeting prior to the camp out will be Tuesday, August 13th at 7:30pm at Deerpark Baptist Church. Come to the rear of the church! We hope to see you there! Troop 228 Needs YOU!
Our Troop Charter is up for renewal in January. Recruiting has been slow and we are in need of new membership before January 2003 in order for us to remain a Troop at Deerpark. We are going to hold a recruiting picnic and silent auction in September. The date will be announced in a couple of weeks. Local merchants have made donations of their wares in support of Troop 228's first annual silent auction. Items will be auctioned off to our guests and all proceeds will go to fund more camping trips, needed Troop equipment, savings for next year's summer camp, and recruitment expenses. Special thanks to Deerpark Baptist Church for allowing us wonderful home in which to hold our meetings and special events! We are looking for all boys ages 11 - 18 to join our Troop!
We offer fun, teamwork, a sense of family, outdoor skills training, camping, hiking, fishing, swimming and brotherhood. Our weekly meeting night is Tuesday, 7:30pm at Deerpark Baptist Church, 1733 Bardstown Road. Come join us for a meeting and see what Troop 228 is all about!

Our First Picnic!
Tuesday, July 23, 2002 Troop 228 held a picnic in the Deerpark Church yard. The boys tested their wood fire cooking skills and invited the local firehouse and EMS for dinner. Hotdogs, hamburgers baked beans, potato salad and cold watermelon were among the favorites. Troop 228 would like to thank US Foods Service, Creation Gardens and Clements Catering for their help in donating the food and equipment to make the picnic possible and a great success!

The Lincoln Heritage Council Philmont Expedition
Philmont Scout Ranch is located in Cimarron, New Mexico. It has over 137,000 acres of challenging Scout adventure. This is a 12 day backpacking expedition for Scouts that takes place in June. Fees are determined year-by-year and include meals, transportation and program fees. For more information, ask you Scoutmaster! Keep this great hope of adventure in mind for the future. |
